Summary results of the pilot project for 2023
The results of the first year indicated that, compared to the uniform fertilisation by producers, the variable nitrogen supply reduced the surface application of nitrogen fertiliser by 35%, without losses in corn yield. Total fertilisation (basic + surface) decreased by 18%, which translates to an increase in financial benefit by 9 Euros per stremma and an increase in nitrogen use efficiency by approximately 5%.
It should be noted that each percentage point increase in nitrogen use efficiency corresponds to fertiliser savings of €200 billion in the global economy.
On 25/04/2024, the results were presented at the colloquium titled ‘Promotion of sustainable innovative solutions through Operational Teams: best practices in Greece’, which was held in the framework of the 10th Panhellenic Conference of GAIA EPICHEIREIN in Kalamata.
